BOLOGNA-UPPSALA-BERKELEY-PARIS
The International Summer School in History of Science is a joint initiative between institutions
for history of science at the universities in
Bologna,
Uppsala, Berkeley,
and Paris.
So far, it has been held ten times: in Bologna 1988, 1996 and 2004, in Uppsala
1990, 1998 and 2006, in Berkeley 1992 and 2000, in Paris 1994 and 2002.
- The 10th International Summer School in History of Science was held in Uppsala 2006, 11-17th of June. The theme was "The Two Cultures in the Republic of Letters: Intellectual History in the 17th and 18th Centuries". The lecturers were Francoise Waquet (Paris), Mary Terrall (Los Angeles), Tatiana Artemieva (S:t Petersburg), John Heilbron (Oxford), Roger Hahn (Berkeley), Hans Helander (Uppsala) and Tore Frängsmyr (Uppsala). - The Ninth Summer School was held in Bologna 2004. The theme was "Current approaches to the history of science", and among the lecturers were Jan Golinski, Dominique Pestre, Nikolaas Rupke, Dava Sobel, and Giuliano Pancaldi.
- The Eighth Summer School was held in Paris 2002. The theme was "Rethinking Scientific Knowledge in the 16th and early 17th Centuries", and among the lecturers were Jim Bennett (Museum of History of Science, Oxford), Sanjay Subrahmanyam (EHESS, Paris) , Gianna Pomata (University of Bologna) and Dennis Des Chene (Emory University).
- The Seventh Summer School was held in Berkeley, June 2000. The theme was "New Knowledge and Hi-tech in the 20th Century", and among the lecturers were David Hounshell (Carnegie Mellon), Donald MacKenzie (Edinburgh), Daniel Kevles (Cal Tech) and Martin Kenney (UC Davis).
- The Sixth Summer School took place in Uppsala, June, 1998. The theme was "The Structure of Knowledge", and the schedule included lectures by Paula Findlen (Stanford), Robert Darnton (Princeton and Oxford), Nicolaas Rupke (Göttingen), and Sven Widmalm (Uppsala).
